Welcome to the Switchgrass Association of America

A producer based organization dedicated to advancing the switchgrass revolution.

SAA's goals include:

1. Helping farmers learn more about producing, harvesting and marketing switchgrass.

2. Developing rural America by putting marginal farmland into production

3. Creating green jobs by fueling the new, emerging biofuel industry

4. Educating government officials on the uses and promise of switchgrass as a fuel of the future

5. Connecting with researchers to share ideas, and resources

Since 2006, when President George H. Bush mentioned switchgrass as a promising cellulostic crop that could help fuel America and leads us toward energy independence, farmers, legislators, engineers and researchers have been exploring its possibilities.

The October 2007 National Geographic article titled "Growing Fuel" projected that "[p]erennial prairie grasses like switchgrass, grown on land unfit for other crops, could replace up to 13 percent of the world's oil consumption -- if an efficient way to turn cellulosic plant matter into ethanol can be developed."

Today -- in the year 2009 -- engineers have found ways to turn cellulosic plant matter into fuel.  The Switchgrass Revolution is gaining momentum.

We encourage you to share your knowledge about growing and marketing switchgrass so that this infant industry can grow.
